ABOUT

Hi, there! I’m so glad you stopped by!

My name is Savannah Jane McCrary. I’m the third born in an amazing family of seven children—five girls and two boys–and I live with my family and our Bernese Mountain Dogs in Montana.  I’m a homeschool graduate–educated at home all the way through by my wonderful mother.

Most importantly, I’m a follower of Jesus.

Though I deserve nothing but God’s wrath, Jesus bore the punishment I deserve on the cross. He died and rose again to save me from my sins and give me eternal life with Him. He pulled me out of the darkness and into His marvelous light. He gave me peace, joy, freedom, and hope that nothing can take away. To quote Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Jesus I have found “the life that is life indeed.” And now my desire is to shine the light of Jesus into the darkness of this world, and proclaim the hope I have in Him.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16

One way I do that is through writing.

I absolutely love to write (and illustrate!) and I have independently published six books. Though I've experimented with a variety of genres, my favorite thing to write is accurate historical fiction filled with suspense, beauty, and most of all, the hope of the kingdom of heaven.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Matthew 13:44

Besides writing and drawing, I enjoy spending time with my family, my puppy, Brielle, and our other Bernese Mountain Dogs (visit our Bernese website here), getting together with old friends and meeting new ones, going on adventures, making pottery, and cups of tea.

And while I adore my home deep in the forest surrounded by mountains, I also love going to the beach!

And I love history. That’s what this blog is about.

   C. S. Lewis said, “Christianity… makes world-history in its entirety a single, transcendentally significant, story with a well-defined plot pivoted on Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Judgment.”

I believe that history truly is His-Story, God’s story. It’s the story of how the Lord has “visited and redeemed His people,” (Luke 1:68). When you look at it this way, history is not boring. It’s redeemed.

So on this blog, I share stories of people from history, informational articles on history, reviews of history-related books and movies, travel logs of my visits to historic sites, and other history tidbits, with the focus of all of it being on God’s hand in history—His providence, the spread of the gospel, and how Christianity has transformed the world. My goal is to do at least one new post a month.

I also occasionally post devotionals–musings on who God is and how our lives are part of His grand story. And every once in a while, I’ll share an update about my books.

My hope and prayer is that everything I share here will point you to Jesus!

Always remember, “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it,” (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

All for Him,

Savannah Jane
